Many people don’t realize how rampant domestic abuse is in Canada. On any given night, 3,491 women and their 2,724 children sleep in shelters because it isn't safe at home.
Even more shocking is that every six days a woman is killed by her intimate partner. And these numbers are still on the rise.
To help expose the gravity of this very real problem and raise more awareness, the Assaulted Women’s Helpline and Giants & Gentlemen opened the blinds on domestic abuse by simulating a violent spousal assault for passersby to witness first-hand.
The video projection activation took place in Yorkville – an affluent neighbourhood in downtown Toronto – meant to shift preconceived notions that this form of violence only happens to certain societal groups.
